A Missing Person is anyone who is reported missing to police, whose whereabouts are unknown, and where there are fears for the safety or concerns for the welfare of that person.


Around 840 persons are reported missing to Northern Territory Police* every year. The state currently has 65 outstanding missing persons with the oldest unsolved case dating back to 1974. Apart from the reward offered for missing person Peter Falconio, the NT police and government have not offered rewards for any other cases.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF DISAPPEARANCE
Dylan Kewal AHMAT
aka Dennis MOHAR/Dennis DILIP
DOB: 1966
A 38 year old African man who was last seen at Katherine Terrace, Katherine on 7 May 2004. Dylan had been living in Katherine for the previous 12 months and was carrying a blue bag at the time of his disappearance.

DOB: 11/06/ 1980
A 9 week old baby girl who was taken from her tent by a dingo whilst on a camping trip with her parents and 2 older brothers on 17 August 1980. Azaria's mother Lindy Chamberlain was originally convicted of Azaria's murder but was later released and acquitted due to the questionable nature of the forensic evidence. The last and final official inquest listed the cause of Azaria's death as "undetermined" and her body has never been found.

Stan DOBIAS DOB: 1945
A 60 year old Czechoslovakian-Australian man who disappeared after walking down a track to lock the gates to the property he was care-taking in the Attack Creek area, near Alice Springs on 24 September 2005. Stan was suffering from Alzheimer's at the time of his disappearance.
Simon Wandie DOOLAN DOB: 1982
A 17 year old Aboriginal male who was last seen in Alice Springs on 16 may 2000.
DOB: 20/09/1972
A 28 year old male British tourist who disappeared whilst travelling along the Stuart Highway near Barrow Creek whilst in the company of his girlfriend Joanne Lees on 14 July 2001. Bradley John Murdoch was subsequently convicted of the murder of Peter Falconio and the abduction of Joanne Lees and was sentenced to 28 years in prison. Peter's body has yet to be located.

A REWARD OF $250,000 HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE NT MINISTER OF POLICE FOR INFORMATION WHICH LEADS TO THE APPREHENSION AND CONVICTION OF THE PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ABDUCTION. The NT Police have stated they will not be withdrawing a $250,000 reward in the Peter Falconio murder case until after Bradley John Murdoch's appeal has been heard.
Aloysious HAYES DOB: 1964
A 41 year old Aboriginal man who went missing after he travelled with family members to William Well outstation about 20 kilometres south-east of Alice Springs in mid January 2006.
DOB: 1980
A 26 year old New Zealand male who abandoned his vehicle containing all his personal possessions including his mobile phone, cards and cash at the Hi-Way Inn, 400km north of Tennant Creek on 26 November 2006. He had left Broome in Western Australia 3 days previously in his white Nissan Urvan van decorated in distinctive landscape art. The car was unlocked when found and the keys were not in the ignition. No one at the inn remembers seeing Jamie, although an off-duty policeman saw him hitch-hiking about 500 metres south of the Highway Inn on the same day as his disappearance.

Andrew Robert JOHNSON
DOB: 1964
A 30 year old Adelaide male whose car was found abandoned in scrub off the Stuart Highway near Elliot on 13 November 1994. Andrew had resigned from his job in June and was intending to work his way around Australia.
Peter JOHNSON DOB: 1952
A 44 year old Aboriginal male who was last seen at Davenport Aboriginal reserve in late January 1996. He has not contacted family and friends since this time and is believed not to have returned to the Santa Teresa Community outside of Alice Springs. Peter suffers Post Traumatic epilepsy.
David James KEIGHRAN DOB: 1972
A 28 year old man of somewhat Indian or middle eastern appearance who has not been in contact with his family since July 2000. He was in the Darwin area at the time of his disappearance.
 
Jennifer Helen LANE

DOB: 03/10/1952
A 51 year old woman who was last seen leaving the Youth Hostel on Leichardt Terrace in Alice Springs on 31 March 2004. She had arrived in Alice Springs by plane the day before from Adelaide, and had booked into the hostel for one night's accommodation. Jennifer failed to check out and left beind her luggage and personal items.

Trevor LANKIN aka Roy LANKIN DOB: 1979
A 25 year old Aboriginal man who was last seen in Alice Springs on 17 May 2004. He may have travelled to Papunya.

Ronya LIVONI

DOB: 1963
A 16 year old girl from Moil, Darwin who was last seen leaving her home by her mother on the 10 March 1980. At the time of her disappearance Ronya did not take any money or clothing with her and she failed to report for work the next day.

Sybil MALBUNKA
(aka Sybil McMILLAN)
DOB: 10/02/1935
A 48 year old woman last seen at the boundary of the restricted area 14 kilometres west of Santa Teresa community (70 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs) on or about 4 March 2006. She had slept overnight in the area with family but was gone the next morning when they awoke.
Brett Rohan McGILLIVRAY DOB: 29/07/1979
A 26 year old Western Australian man who was last seen driving along the Luritja Highway near Attack Creek, (about 80km north of Tennant Creek) on or about 10 April 2006. A passing truck driver noticed the man's abandoned white Toyota Camry sedan with the keys in the ignition parked in a truck bay about 170km south of Elliott on Saturday 22 April and then 2 days later on his return trip.
Nathan McLAUGHLIN DOB: 1976
An 18 year old Moil man who is believed to have left his home on the evening of 17 March 1994 or early next morning on the 18 March riding a grey silver and black racing bike. The bike was later found in the Secrett Road/Berrimah area.
Michael John O’REILLY

DOB: 1964
A 24 year old West Australian man who arrived in Darwin after holidaying in Indonesia on 6 February 1988. He contacted his parents to notify them he was seeking work in Darwin to pay for his return trip home but he has not been in contact since.

DOB: 1969
A 37 year old Queensland man who drove his white Datsun utility Reg no 399 BWJ into the Barkly homestead on or about 16 January 2007 to conduct repairs. He was last seen by truck drivers on Saturday 20 January 2007 hitchhiking westerly on the Barly Highway. Staff at the homestead reported that he had abandoned his vehicle which contained his clothing and personal belongings. Despite an exhaustive air and ground search Oswal has not been located. He has family in Gatton.

David Lee ROBINSON

DOB: 1963
A 32 year old Aboriginal man who was last seen at the Royal Darwin Hospital around 9.30 pm on 3 May 1995. David left the hospital wearing dark blue hospital pyjamas and carrying a white hospital blanket.

Benjamin SAKARIASSEN

DOB: 17/09/1981
A 24 year old man last seen in Darwin in June 2006.

Claus Clemens SCHMAHL

DOB: 1947
A 48 year old German male tourist who has been missing since 1995. His luggage containing his posessions and documents was located abandoned in Darwin.


Ivica Paul SINOZIC

DOB: 1943
A 40 year old man who left his parents' home in Victoria in June 1982 seeking employment in the mining industry interstate. He arrived in Alice Springs in July 1982 and his white Datsun 120Y sedan was located about 400 km east of Alice Springs on 10 April 1983. Registration and compliance plates had been removed from the vehicle.

Terrence SMITH

DOB: 1938
A 43 year old Darwin man who was last seen in his apartment complex in late May 2007. He gave no indication to family or friends that he was leaving the area, although he may have travelled interstate to Queensland or South Australia.

Christine Margaret SOMOGYI
aka TORZOK

DOB: 18/12/1965
A 33 year old woman who was last seen at an Aboriginal camp in Alice Springs in March 1999. After moving from Adelaide to Alice Springs in 1997 or 1998, Christine made close friendships with Aborigines and frequented their camps. She gave birth to a child early in 1999.

Barry Ross WOOD

DOB: 1956
A 44 year old Darwin man who was last seen around 6 pm on 29 September 2001 wherby he informed his flat mate he would be attending a Paul Kelly concert at Casino Lawns later in the evening. Barry never returned to his residence, leaving behind his passports, all personal belongings and a Yamaha motor cycle Reg No. NT 76265.

Special mention is given to the following persons who went missing at the time of Cyclone Tracy in 1974.

Raymond John CURTAIN DOB: 27/01/1946
A 28 year old man who went missing whilst on board the vessel Darwin Princess in Darwin Harbour during Cyclone Tracy on the 25 December 1974. The vessel sank due to dangerous winds and high seas created by the cyclone.
Graham William DEARDEN

DOB: 20/12/1944
Terrence Carew Westwood, Gerald Frederick Thompson, Gregory John Westerman, Graham William Dearden & Ruth Nazmeena Adrione Vincent went missing whilst on board the vessel the Booya in Darwin Harbour during Cyclone Tracy on the 24 and 25 December 1974. The vessel sank due to dangerous winds and high seas created by the cyclone.

DOB: 03/11/1943
Terrence Carew Westwood, Gerald Frederick Thompson, Gregory John Westerman, Graham William Dearden & Ruth Nazmeena Adrione Vincent went missing whilst on board the vessel the Booya in Darwin Harbour during Cyclone Tracy on the 24 and 25 December 1974. The vessel sank due to dangerous winds and high seas created by the cyclone.

DOB: 23/11/1950
