Unbelievably, the case file was then lost from the Homicide Department and key witnesses in the case were not interviewed for some 21 years after the disappearance. By this stage many potential witnesses had passed away and Louise's second youngest daughter Rosalie had committed suicide.

Police eventually named George Sutherland, who was Louise’s lover and the father of Charmian, as the suspect in their murders.

It took intense lobbying by a family member to have the case re-opened, investigated further by the police and eventually heard before the Coroner’s Court. The inquest was adjourned in August 2006.

It is now September 2007 - 13 months on - and still no date has been set for resumption. The inquest cannot resume until police have exhausted all avenues of investigation. After 10 000 days of injustice it seems unimaginable to expect any further delays by the police.

Every day that something is not done is another day of injustice for the victims. We need to ask why there seems to be little priority or sense of urgency with this case. We need to ask what the police are doing on this case today.

As there has been no official finding of death in the courts, no memorial service has yet been held for Louise and Charmian. As there has been no official finding of death, Louise’s remaining children are unable to claim Crimes Compensation for their pain and suffering.

The family strongly believe that Louise and Charmian are buried at the suspect’s former property in Parkers Corner. Louise and Charmian’s murderer has never been charged. He remains at large in the community.

Ten thousand days of injustice. That's exactly 366 lunar months, or 27 years and 4 months.

Citizens of Australia - this is an absolute disgrace.

I sincerely hope that you will be able to help today in our crusade for justice for Louise and Charmian. Never underestimate the power that you as an individual have. I’m only asking for a few minutes of your time and I thank you in advance for your support.

1. I'd like to say a big thank you to all the supporters of the Louise and Charmian Campaign. We've been overwhelmed by the number of people who have signed the petition and offered their condolences. It is also extremely encouraging that people outside of Australia are taking part, as evident by our new online petition.

This blog has now been created to post your messages to Louise and Charmian's family and friends.

Thank you
Melissiah
